Our Prayer Focus

When you pray for someone, where is your attention focused?  Notice where Christ's attention was focused. Matthew 9:6- But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” (www.lifejournal.cc)
Christ healed the man to point out what He could do in him spiritually.  We often focus on Christ healing the physical and overlook the need of the spiritual.  It may be why we have such a hard time understanding when tragedy strikes or when disease comes charging in.  When we understand that God knows the greatest needs of the person and the greatest needs of the people around them, we can trust Him to work in a way that is profitable spiritually in the long run.  Does that mean we will always gain understanding?  Not in this life.  And as I often say, when we get to heaven, we will be so caught up in the atmosphere, that we won't ask too many questions.
Let's try to focus on the spiritual concerns that we have for others and trust God with the physical.  He will not look past the physical needs anymore than He now looks past the spiritual when we focus on the physical.  It may change our perspective though.
And since, many times, we don't know how to pray for another spiritually either, why don't we just rest that burden at the Lord's feet, submit our ignorance to His Infinite Knowledge, and truly entrust the direction of our lives and the lives of others to His power, wisdom, and love.
Just something to think about on this Sunday morning.  I hope you have a blessed day in worship today.
