Answering the World

Last night we attended the first session of the Pastor's Conference of the Southern Baptist Convention.  It was an evening of great music and great preaching.  The theme worked around Father's Day and sons who are ministers introduced their dads to preach or vice versa.   The highlight for us was when Dr. Tony Evans preached.  What a wonderful preacher!  It was a blessing.  After the worship time my family talked me into a trip to Cafe du Monde for beignets.  Yes, I ate a beignet for all those people that asked me to: I am always willing to serve.  As we left we saw Anthony Evans sitting down.  Anthony is Tony's son.  Anthony is a powerful Christian singer who recently appeared on the show, The Voice, and who we often listen to.  He sang last night and then introduced his dad.  The girls just had to meet him, so we did.  That was a highlight for them and it is nice to see someone in his position so kind, even when harassed in public.  It was a great night.

Tony Evans preached on making a difference for the Kingdom of God by Christians, not just worshiping in private but sharing and living it out in front of the world. He said (and I paraphrase), 'Everyone else seems to be coming out of the closet about the things that are wrong with our world, it is time we come out of our spiritual closet sharing the One that can change the world.'  That is the message I heard from the apostle Paul this morning as well- Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. - Colossians 4.6 (www.lifejournal.cc)
Let's work on that today!
