The Root

We wake up this morning, once again, wrecked by senseless tragedy. Those of us who are parents or grandparents of small children try to erase the thought of 'what if' or try not to relive previously felt personal tragedy.  Yet at the same time, some parents in New England wake up this morning with empty little beds in their homes.  Let's not go on with our day until we remember them in prayer.

Let's not focus on the lashing out.  We turn on ourselves as a country or cast blame or take up political sides on the root of the problem when tragedy strikes.

Let me tell you what the root of the problem. Better yet, let James 4.7-9- Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

The heart of the problem is with the hearts of humanity. Let's make sure ours are right. Then we tell and show folks Christ and pray earnestly for the hearts of those without Christ.  Our enemy is not flesh and blood and the enemy is beaten when he loses the spiritual battles in the hearts of men and women.

That is the root of the problem. Let's focus on that.  Let's also pray for hurting folk today.
