God's First Question

I have always been amazed at the questions of God.  Think about it.  Why does God ask questions?  He don't need to know the answer.  He knows all things.  He asks questions for our own introspection.  The first question that we have recorded in Scripture is found in passage today.  It is followed by more follow up questions.  But get the first one.  It is found in Genesis 3:9 (www.lifejournal.cc) and it comes when Adam and Eve are hiding from God.  God simply asks-  “Where are you?”.  First, have you ever been hiding from God?  The answer is 'yes'.  When sin is in our lives or we are trying to run our own lives without his consultation (that is sin too) or his leadership (God is a leader not a consultant), we tend to avoid interaction with God.  We don't pray like we should.  We don't read His Word like we should.  We don't attend church like we should.  We don't think, speak, and live like we should.  We are avoiding interaction with God. We are avoiding places and situations that are uncomfortable because of conviction or correction. When that happens God will not leave His Children there.  He will begin to probe our hearts and lives and speak to us where we are.  Often times the probing feels like questions.  Questions like 'Where are you?'. Which could also mean, "I know where you are, do you realize how far you have gone?" or "Why are you hiding from God?" or  "Don't you want to walk with the Lord?"  God's questions! They dig deep.
So I have a question for you on the 2nd day of a new year.  It is a question that I just want you to think about and maybe give God an answer to (but not because he fails to know the answer).  This is my question:  Where are you?
