What's Driving You?

Today (www.lifejournal.com) Peter is speaking of the unrighteous and what happens to them.  He uses some terms that got me thinking.  2 Peter 2:17- These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved.
First, the waterless springs- what a term!  How much good is a spring without water?  It has missed its purpose.  When we went outwest this past summer, we were told it was one of the driest seasons ever.  There was little water and conservation efforts were being made.  We traveled over many areas on the interstate that were identified as washes. A wash is an area that has free flowing water during the rains but are dry when there is no rain.  It looked like areas where a river was but is no longer.  Understanding their need for water, it was somewhat sad to see; even though, I understood that washes could be dry when there is enough water.  It still served as a constant reminder of the need for water.  A waterless spring--what a shame!
God did not intend for us to be empty.  He instead intends for us to be those of deep water.  Listen to
Proverbs 20:5- The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.  Unlike the one that is a waterless spring.
Well, why are they waterless springs?  Because they are "driven by storms."  That reminds me of another passage that talks about the obstacles we face from being all God wants us to be.  We are to attain the measure of the fullness of Christ in our life.  When we pursue Christ there is advantages:
Eph. 4:14- so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.  The storms that drive the waterless springs lead them to errant doctrines, mixed motives, and deceitful plots.  The people of God  do not need to be blown from one episode to another by the things of this world.  Instead we need to be driven by a passion for the Lord that leans on the depths of our relationship with Him.  It is from those depths that we draw out the spiritual subsistence that we need for what we may face.
The question is what will drive you today?  Will it be the storms of this world or your passion for Christ?
What's driving you?
