The Team

Anybody that knows me knows that I love football.  I really love college football.  I am counting down the days until football season starts.  I love it for several reasons.  I love the long runs, the hard hits, the pretty passes, the great catches, and the extra efforts.  Successful football builds a team that encourages and challenges one another.  The hope of doing his part helps the player to look pass the soreness, bruises, and limps that come in the midst of a season.  There are stars but there are also bruts, talkers, the big uglies, and the supply men.  Each have different roles and all of them are important.  None can do it alone.  The runner cannot run without the blocker.  The passer cannot pass without the receiver.  If the offense scores but the defense stinks, it is useless. It takes a team effort to bring victory home.

I thought about football this morning when I read Hebrews 10.23-25-  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. The Christian life is not for the lone rangers.  We are a team that work together to spur one another on to continue for the Cause even when the soreness, bruises, and limps come along the way.  That is not effective unless we huddle together, understand the game plan, and do our part to live it out.  Do not neglect God's team.  We are in this together.

You are not alone today.  Let's strive for victory today!
