Amazing Believablity

Today we read Isaiah 63-64, Psalm 107, and John 2.

I had the opportunity to go to Israel in the spring of 2012.  It was an unbelievable trip and something that I reflect on often.  While there, I visited Cana and the remains of the house where a wedding took place....a very important wedding.  It was the house where Jesus changed the water into wine.  Even more startling to me, there was a large rock, round water container there from the time of Christ.  It is believed to be one of the jars described in Scripture.  I took pictures but, more than that, I took it in.  Not only did it happen, but here is where it happened and what was used.  Amazing!  Even as I read about this morning, I am amazed...yet I believe.

The disciples were amazed as well, but they believed too.  John 2.11This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

Just because the Lord's works seems amazing, that does not mean that you should not believe them.
He is amazing... and believable.  If He could do this miracle...and He did, ponder today on what else He can do in your life.

Believe it!  Believe Him!  He is Amazing!

Recognizing Johnny Manziel

Today we read Isaiah 60-62 and John 1.

Last year I had the privilege to speak to the Texas A&M football team on the night before their game against Mississippi State.  At the time talk had just begun about a freshman phenom named Johnny Manziel.  A household name to a football fan today, then he was just beginning to be talked about.  I had heard of him, but knew little.  I watched some film on him but there were few pictures of his face.  I gave a devotional talk to them and then enjoyed some late night 'snacks.'  College football teams snack pretty heavy.  There was a deluge of players around the vittles but I had my eye out for Johnny.  I was not going to bug him but I did want to speak.  I thought I saw him.  I wasn't sure.  He got his snacks and left.  I asked personnel if that was him, they told me it was.

The next day Johnny put on the show for the world to see (much to the regret of MSU fans).  The next week he led his team to upset Alabama and immediately he surged to the top of the college football world.  They went on to win a bowl and he to win the Heisman.  I try to think that my talk was the fuel behind the fire,  but I am slightly doubtful, as I know you are too.

I was among the star of college football but I did not quite recognize him and I somewhat missed him.  Kind of a shame.  Let me tell you the bigger shame.  The biggest regret one could ever have is to have the opportunity of Jesus and to let it pass...to let Him go.  It has been done before. The reality is that it happens all the time.

John 1.12-13 speaks to it:  He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him.
12 But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God,
to those who believe in His name.

If you have never 'recognized' Christ as the Lord and Savior of your life, surrender your life to Him today.  Ask Him to cleanse you, change you, empower you with His Holy Spirit, and your life will forever change.  If you have surrendered your life to Him, don't miss the opportunity today to shine for Him...to 'recognize' Him through out your day.

It is the most important recognition you could have today.

A Patient Man and A Patient God

Today we read Isaiah 57-59, Psalm 103, and 2 Peter 3.

I love W.C. Sumrall.  W.C. Sumrall has got me in a lot of trouble over the years.

W.C. is my father-in-law.  Just a couple of years after he retired from the University of Southern Mississippi, he had a stroke and his health began to decline.  He now lies in a hospital bed in south Mississippi with several health challenges and a slipping mind.  He is a shell of the rock he was, but,oh, a rock he has been.

He has got me in a lot of trouble because he is a very patient man.  Married to a woman that never got in a hurry, W.C. has waited a lot.  The classic example is the time W.C. took her to the mall.  He let her go in, probably after she said it would only be a minute, while he stayed in the truck.  He kept on waiting until the lights of the mall started going out.  He got curious as to where his wife was, when he saw in the shadows a worker unlock the door and let her out.  She had literally closed down the mall.  He had waited in that truck for who knows how long without reading a book, listening to a radio, or messing with a phone.  That is the way of W.C.  He is a patient man.

Their daughter and my wife has inherit some of her mother's qualities.  She don't like it when I hurry her.  I have waited too with a book in hand, listening to a ballgame, or messing with a phone, but I have never done it in the spirit and the attitude that her daddy, who has always wonderfully cared for her, could do it.   She now returns the same patient love, travels many miles, and loses a lot of sleep diligently overseeing his care.

Lord, give me patience and please hurry.

I am so glad we serve a patient God.  2 Peter 3.9- The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

Because He is patient with us, we have the opportunity to be in right relationship with Him.  May we be changed by our opportunity in Christ, and inherit the patient qualities that can come as fruit of the  same Spirit that has breathed new life into us.

Wait on The Lord today.  He waited on you....and He still does in many ways.

The Full Word

Today we read Isaiah 53-56 and 2 Peter 2.

Trust in the Lord and His Word today.  Read it, listen to it, heed it, and live by it.

Isaiah 55.8-11- “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways.”
This is the Lord’s declaration.
“For as heaven is higher than earth,  so My ways are higher than your ways,
and My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return there
without saturating the earth and making it germinate and sprout,
and providing seed to sow and food to eat,
11 so My word that comes from My mouth will not return to Me empty,
but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.”

If you are in Houston or close by, I hope to see you in worship today.

What You Know

Today we read Isaiah 50-52, Psalm 92, and 2 Peter 1.

What has the Lord done for you?

2 Peter 1.15- For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

Share what you know...but do share...and seek out opportunities to share what you have seen, experienced, and felt Him do.

And do it today....have a great one!

The Deacon In the Den

Today we read Isaiah 46-49 and 1 Peter 5.

We have a new puppy in our house.  We just got him on July 6th.  We were highly anticipating him.  It started over a year ago when serious negotiations started up at the house.  After many serious talks I negotiated my way out of any responsibility at all.  Never would I need to feed the dog, take the dog out, or do anything but associate with it whenever I chose to.  I am a hard negotiator...and I was up this morning at 5:30 (thought I would sleep in) and I have let the dogs out (Yes, I am the one that 'let the dogs out.'), fed the dogs, and threatened the big dog's life for being too rough with the new, little one.

And he is little.  He weighed in last week at 2 lbs. 9 oz.  My hamster in 1988 was about that weight, I believe.  The new puppy is a chocolate miniature schnauzer and he is one cute dog.  His name is Deacon.  Why did I name my dog Deacon?  It depends on what day you ask me (just kidding...I have been blessed many times over by deacons in my life.)

Deacon is tiny.  In a neighborhood full of dogs, it is somewhat an adventure to let him out.  We are fenced in at the back of the house. He goes there a lot.  However, sometimes, to be quick, we just put him down in the front yard.  Many of his friends come over quickly when he is out there.  He only stays out there long enough to do his business and we try to stay within an arm's length.  However, there are big dogs around too.  Just yesterday, one saw Deacon from afar and started our way.  Curious ears will in the air and the dog looked to be stalking.  I hollered at Deacon like a little girl and he came to me.  You have to be careful when you are a 2 1/2 lbs. dog.  Although I don't think any of these dogs would hurt him, he is about the size of a squirrel...you never know.

There is one stalking you and me today as well.  Did you know that?  It is not a dog.  It is a lion...a very evil one.  1 Peter 5.8 tells us about him- Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.

This is serious business, folks.  This is not a light matter.  The devil stalks you daily seeking to steal your zeal, kill your thrill, and destroy your joy.  Thank God, the owner of your soul is only a prayer away, but do not take the devil's schemes and traps lightly. Don't walk in fear either.  The Lord will provide all you need in the day of trial.  Just, as the Scripture says, be sure you are serious about the matter and alert to the devil's agenda behind your experiences and encounters.

Have a great day and watch out for the big dogs...and the lion!

In the End

Today we read Isaiah 43-45 and 1 Peter 4.

Let's let 1 Peter remind us of something today:

1 Peter 4.7-10 - Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be serious and disciplined for prayer. Above all, maintain an intense lovefor each other, since love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10 Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.

It is not about you.  It is not about me. It is about Him.  When we serve Him today, we will also serve others.  Our service, prayers, forgiveness, love, and patience toward others show the depth of our love for Him.

Is that always easy?  Of course not.  But it is always true...let's try to live it out today.

Preparing for Today

Today we read Isaiah 40-42 and 1 Peter 3.

We don't know who we will see today.   We don't know what opportunities will come our way.  Unless we are spiritually ready, keenly alert, and anticipating opportunity, we may miss the best that God has for us.  Before the day gets going, ponder and pray this morning over your response to whatever God has for you today.
1 Peter 3.15b-16- Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.16 However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are accused, those who denounce your Christian life  will be put to shame.

Let's live to make Him proud!

Dying to Live

Today we read 2 Kings 20, Isaiah 38-39, Psalm 75, and 1 Peter 2.

I am thankful today that because He died, I can live.  Because He paid the price, we can live the life.
Keep 1 Peter 2.24 on the tip of your tongue, at the center of your heart, and at the top of your head all day today.

1 Peter 2.24- He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that, having died to sins,
we might live for righteousness;  you have been healed by His wounds.

I hope you have a great day living out your faith before The Lord and before others.

Prevailing Prayer

Today we read 2 Kings 18 & 19, 2 Chronicles 32, and James 5.

I have had the opportunity to be in some powerful prayer meetings of recent days.  Last Sunday was dedicated to prayer for a friend that did remarkably well in brain surgery last Monday.  He is scheduled to move to a rehab facility tomorrow and CAT scans and MRIs show that all of the malignant tumor was removed.  That is the power of prayer.

Two of my dear friends lost a parent this week ( in the same day).  I was out of town and not able to be there for them as I would have liked.  I replaced my presence with prayer which, of course, is much more comforting than I could ever be.

This week I was a part of our youth's Centrifuge camp and every evening we prayed together.  God did powerful things in the lives of those young people.  I look forward to them sharing with the church tonight.

I had a flood of reflections come over me about these matters as I read this morning James 5.16- Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed.
The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.

Prayer works.  Let's let God mold and make us through it today.

The Spoken Way

Today we read 2 Kings 17, 2 Chronicles 28, Psalm 46, and James 3.

When it comes to what you say today, you cannot have it both ways.  You need to make a choice.
James always gets right to the heart of the matter.  Where the rubber meets the road, that is where James is speaking.  Listen to Him this morning:

James 3.9-12  -We praise our Lord and Father with it, and we curse men who are made in God’s likeness with it. 10 Praising and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers, these things should not be this way.11 Does a spring pour out sweet and bitter water from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree produce olives, my brothers, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a saltwater spring yield fresh water.

In a youth camp at the beach, we have had a few minutes each afternoon to play in the gulf.  Some kids who have never spent a lot of time in salt water were amazed at the difference of salt water compared to fresh water.  It is as different as the content that comes out of some mouths.  So what is going to come out of yours today?

You cannot have it both ways.  Make a choice today...make the right one.  Show gratitude toward others, lavish encouragement upon their lives, and be quick to give your God praise and thanks, both in private and with others.

By the way, you won't be perfect today.  However, we can strive to be better today...all day.
Have a great day!

Morning Wanderings

Today we read Isaiah 32-35 and James 2.

As I read this morning about exalting the Lord, how the Lord is our stability and our abundance, my mind wanders through the lives of several friends.

I am at camp this week with teenagers.  I am watching God move, build relationships, and knock down barriers. Burdened for some, excited for others, and keeping my eye on others, it is fun to worship with them and watch God move and work.

While here, I know that I have friends that are recovering.  Three of my favorite men had surgery this week and are painfully recovering.  I pray for their healing while I pray for others going through tests and trials.

I also learned that two of my dear friends lost a parent yesterday.  Two different people came to the end of this life's journey.  Thankfully for both, it is an end of suffering and a complete renewal in glory.  For those that are still here, these will be tough days.

I thought about all of that as well as those testy battles that so many are facing under the surface.
We need strength in our weariness, guidance for our walk, and worship along the way.
My heart was full this morning as I read Isaiah 33.5 -
The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high;
he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness,
and he will be the stability of your times,
    abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is Zion's treasure.

Whatever it is you face today, thank God you are not alone.  He will fill you with strength, impart to you knowledge, and bring stability to your walk.  Be sure to give Him praise today.

Not That Bad

Today we read Isaiah 29-31 and James 1.

They told the van driver where to park it.  As we got off, they told me to leave my stuff, pulled me to the side and sent me to a little building.  The paperwork was filed and was given some simple instructions.  I was brought back to my stuff and told to go to the barracks hall. Having been singled out, I was one of the last in the room.  The room was small, smelled of too many men in too small a space.  The beds were three high.  The tallest bed was right at 6 ft.  The bottom was maybe a foot off the ground.  The middle bunk hung between them like a book shelf with one too many adjustable shelves.  I claimed the middle bunk closest to the door, wondering if I would ever get my leg high enough in the air to get on the bed and my head low enough to do it successfully.

After claiming my spot, we lined up at the mess hall.  The slop of the night was pre-processed salad, spaghetti, and rolls.  Canned fruit cocktail adorned the dessert table...alone.  I ate down hoping that the 11:30 lights out time would have real meaning in that great barrack of men.

The first sign that things may be looking up was the spaghetti.  Better than your Ragu mix up...not bad...of course, I was hungry.  However, the yeast rolls were homemade and to die for. This may not be so bad.

At 11:00 I got back to BLDG 2, the barracks hall, and the guys I rode in with were all in bed, quiet, some of them asleep.  I dreamed of being able to get in the bed without pulling a hamstring and maybe getting some sleep.   This may not be so bad.

I sized up the bed.  The height of the mattress and the bottom of the top bunk that hung low atop.
I laughed, threw a leg up, reached over the mattress, grabbed the frame on the other side, and made it..uninjured...not even hitting my head.  It wasn't that bad.  I actually sleep here.  In a few minutes...I did.  This may not be so bad.

No, they have not finally locked me up.  I simply the group leader at a Centrifuge youth camp this week.  It is something that I have looked forward to...with fear and trembling...for months now.  Hey, this may not be so bad.

This week I will spend more time being quiet and listening.  James 1.19-20 is mighty appropriate for me.

James 1.19-20- Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Try it yourself, wherever you are today.  And have a good day...it is not that bad.

Simple and Lasting

Today we read Isaiah 25-28 and Hebrews 13.

What keeps you stablilized in the rough times?  What carries you through when you feel too weak to lug through it.
The simple but lasting statement of Isaiah 26.3 may say it best-
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you,  because he trusts in you.
Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

Let's focus on Him today and watch Him guide us through.  Have a great day!

The Real Cloud

Today we read Isaiah 22-24 and Hebrews 12.

As I awake early this morning in a Memphis hotel and begin to get ready to accompany a family on the day of a big surgery, I am thankful today for such a cloud of witnesses.

Hebrews speaks to the matter in Hebrews 12.1-2- Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

After speaking of several Biblical heroes that God used mightily through their strong faith, the Hebrews writer reminds us that all of heaven is cheering us on in this race of life to claim the prize (or the best) that God would have for us.  I believe I will know all of those in that cloud one day when I see Jesus face to face.  I am thankful today for those that I know are in glory cheering me on.

I am also thankful this morning for those that have cheered me on throughout my life on this earth. I have had a host of witnesses all my life.  Raised by Godly parents, influenced by Godly grandparents, and raised in a great church with great men of God around me, I was blessed at an early age.  Since that time, God has allowed me to minister on staff in churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Mississippi, and I have always been surrounded by great encouragement.

Now I reflect on a man that I am truly thankful for who is to have brain surgery today to remove a tumor. A dear saint, a trusted friend, and a great mentor, I have spent much time thanking God for Lonnie Whitt over the last few days.  I celebrate, as well,  the great gift of God given to me in a church family that met me at the altar twice yesterday for soul stirring prayer as we joined together to pray for one of us.   What a host of witnesses!  Even today, as I will communicate through mobile means with a 'host' to give surgery updates for continued prayer,  I continue to be encouraged by so many.

God is so good to me.  He often shows his goodness by those that surround me, encourage me on, and join with me in the ministry that God lays before us.

I am thankful today for the host of witnesses I have hear and the cloud of witnesses watching me from 'there'.  You have the same today if you chose to acknowledge it, so I encourage you not to miss it.

You are not alone! Let's run together for His prize today!

Praying For Lonnie

Today we read Isaiah 19-21 and Hebrews 11.

Hebrews 11.1- Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

I believe, Lord, help thou my unbelief.  That is what the father said to Jesus when asked about his faith in Christ being able to heal his son.  I feel the same way this morning.  Today will be marked by prayer for me.  Normally a pastor highly anticipates being able to preach on Sunday and wanting to do as good a job as he can. Today I am, admittedly, distracted...by a welling up of faith.

Last Tuesday night I found out that one of the dearest friends that God has ever given me has a horribly large brain tumor that the doctors say is probably malignant.  We found out on Friday that it has to come out...on Monday.

Today FBC will be marked with prayer.  Our men will meet at 9:15 AM at the altar in the sanctuary to pray on his behalf.  Tonight's worship will be centered on prayer for him.  After that worship hour I will leave to drive to Memphis to be with him early in the morning.

If you live in Houston and don't know Lonnie, you need to get out of the house a little more.  For those of you that may not live here and may not know him, he is a grand man of God, a community leader, a church leader, and a pastor's (many pastor's) best friend.  He and his wife, Bonnie, go above and beyond to accomodate whenever they get the opportunity.

I ask you to join us to pray specifically that the surgery will go amazingly smooth and that the tumor will be benign.

I do not like anything about this situation, but I am anticipating God doing mighty things through it.  Let's pray for miracles because when they come, we will be sure that God gets the glory.

Looking for a Sunday Stirring

Today we read Isaiah 15-18 and Hebrews 10.

I am encouraged today by the words of Hebrews 10.24-25-  And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

I find some of my greatest moments of encouragement when God's people congregate for worship.  Something special happens when hearts are ready, lives are tuned for God to have His Way in us.

After being shocked this week to hear of one of our church leaders being diagnosed with a large brain mass that has a high chance of being malignant, I need some time of encouragement with the church.  I look forward to the special times of prayer that we have scheduled and the message that God has welled up in my heart.

We could stand a stirring!  May God prepare our hearts for a powerful sense of His Presence and may we prioritize our live in preparation to let God to stir in us in a mighty way!

Today's Praise

Today we read Isaiah 11-14 and Hebrews 9.

As I read Isaiah today, I am reminded of a Christian singing group called Truth that sang anthems to the Lord for years.  This young, fresh faced, beautiful ensemble would come to town and they were heroic in the way they led you to the throne of God.  Roger Breland from Mobile, AL would direct and lead this group and they became a Christian classic for my generation.  I could not help but hear the song and see the smile that the beautiful voice came from so many years ago as I read this morning:
Isaiah 12.4-6. -“Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name,
make known his deeds among the peoples,   proclaim that his name is exalted.
“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously;
let this be made known in all the earth.
Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”

Whatever you are facing today, begin by giving thanks to the Lord.  Let his praises be known to all you come in contact with.

Lord, we lean on you today for the heaviness that we feel, the decisions that we face, and the direction that we go.  We give you praise for who you are and that is where we find our rest!

    Waiting In the Valley

Today we read Isaiah 8-10 and Hebrews 8.

I have been walking through a valley with some very dear folks the last couple of days.  A distressing health report turns a life on its edge.  Dear God, may we see your Hand at work.
    He answers that prayer today.
He has not answered with good reports...yet.
He has not answered with miracles this time...yet.
He has answered in His Word, which is manner that He often answers in.  For me it is Isaiah 8.18 today- I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him.

If you too are waiting on an answer from God or on the evidence of His Hand at work, take His Word for what it is- a solid foundation to build your life on...even in the valley.

    Well, especially in the valley.

Put your hope in God today.

    Three Sweet Reminders

Today we read Micah 5-7 and Hebrews 7.

I have found three sweet reminders in one verse this morning that makes my day.
First the verse is Hebrews 7.25- Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
    Now the reminders.
    1) He is able to save us, both now and for eternity.  What an offer to give to others!  What a promise to celebrate!  What a life to live!
2)He invites us to draw near to Him.  He welcomes us to come to Him.  You may not know me that well and I may not know you that well, but you know you and I know me.  To know that He would allow either one of us to draw near to Him is absolutely amazing...no matter who you are.
    3) He lives to pray for you.  Who is your greatest prayer warrior? Jesus.  Now that is something to celebrate.  That is the power of prayer.

Enjoy these three sweet reminders today.

    Lessons from Charlie Hustle

Today we read Micah 1-4 and Hebrews 6.

Pete Rose, the great baseball player that was defamed because of gambling, was also called 'Charlie Hustle.'  He always gave an all out effort on the field.  When they walked Pete Rose on balls, he never walked to first base.  He ran.  He had his share of personal problems that effected his legacy, but he never let up on the field...even if he did bet on his own games (if he did).

Are you hustling in your walk of faith?  Are you giving your all?

You ought to be.  Somebody is watching you.  Do you realize it like you should?

Hebrews 6.10-12- For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

If He is taking a look at our work for Him, we should take a look at our work for Him.
If He desires that we are not sluggish in our faith, then we work to not be sluggish in our faith.
If He has placed folks before us, through Scripture and through our own lives, that give us great impressions of how to live out our faith, then we ought to follow suit and please Him with our lives.

May be not be sluggish today in living out our faith in Him! Hustle in the Lord!

    Praise for the Generations

Today we read Hosea 13-14, Psalm 100-102, and Hebrews 5.

    We've a story to tell.

    Psalm 102.18-22-
Let this be recorded for a generation to come,
so that a people yet to be created may praise theLord:
    19 that he looked down from his holy height;
from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners,
to set free those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
        and in Jerusalem his praise,
    22 when peoples gather together,
and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.

What we can receive from The Lord, we ought to commit our lives to, share with all of our heart for, and change our lives toward.   Have you ever thought: We are a determining factor in what the next generation knows about Jesus?  That is huge.  May the generations to come thrive, at least partially, due to our commitment today.

    Able and Willing

Today we read Hosea 10-12,  Psalm 73, and Hebrews 4.

Some of the most practical help and hope in your life can be found in Hebrews 4.15-16- For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

With that as truth, we have a life to live, a story to tell, and a hope to hold on to.  Unless He could understand...and forgive...and change us...and enable us to come to God and unless He would do all those things, we would be eternally separated from Him.

But He is able and willing to do all those things, so we have no excuse.  We are now able, if we are just willing. Let's get clean before the Lord and live to please Him.

    In This Together

Today we read Hosea 6-9 and Hebrews 3.

Hebrews 3.12-13 - Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

I have good news today.  Yes, it is true that we are in a spiritual battle.  And yes, it is true, we must lean upon the Lord daily through His Word and prayer to come out ahead in this struggle.   However, I have good news today.  You are not in this alone.  We are in this together.

How does that change your day?  Hopefully, it will change you day in two ways.

    1)  You will not be discouraged.  You are not alone.  We are in this together.  Let's strengthen one another in the effort, even when...especially when... it is a struggle.

    2)  You will be an encouragement. You are not in this alone.  We are in this together.  Think beyond yourself, look to others, and encourage someone in their journey...today.

Don't single yourself out.  Don't feel left out.  We are in this together. Let's help each other out!

Have a great day!  We are in this together.

    Celebrations

Today we read Hosea 2-5 and Hebrews 2.

It was a mighty wet 4th in South Carolina.  A lot of the typical fireworks displays were cancelled or postponed.  Thank God, the celebration of our freedom is not determined by the weather.  As citizens of the greatest country in the world, let's do all we can to protect that freedom that we love to celebrate this time of year.

I am celebrating my hope in Christ today.  I hope you are.  Hebrews 2.18 gives me hopeFor because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
He has been there.  He understands.  Take your burden to Him.

I hope you have a great day!

    God Bless America

Today we read 2 Kings 15-16, Hosea 1, and Hebrews 1.

We celebrate the freedom of this great country today. Let's all celebrate what God gave us in America  and pray to preserve what has made America great.    Of  all of the great blessings that has been bestowed upon this country, there is not a blessing greater that the great growth of the Gospel message to reach so many ih of a country.  The light of the Lord has flickered at times but not due to the light of the world, our Lord and Savior, and not due to the oil of our lamp, the Holy Spirit.  The candlesticks, however (Rev. 1), have been weak at times.  Those carrying the light of God's love to others have not always walked in the way that they should or walked through the doors that have been opened for them.  Let's not let anything hinder us in carrying the hope of Christ to others.  It is the greatest way to celebrate the freedom of this land.

Hebrews 1.1-2 remind us this morning about the One that speaks to us. Hebrews 1.1-2- Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

As He speaks to us, let us share with others.  God, please bless America!

    As He Leads Today

    Today we read Isaiah 6 & 7, 2 Chronicles 26 & 27, and the book of Philemon.

I heard a testimony Sunday about a man's call into ministry.  He said he was devotionally reading Isaiah 6 and came to v.8- And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” God immediately spoke into his heart and confirm His call into ministry.

I love to hear people's testimonies and I love to hear about a call into ministry.  It brought me back to when I heard God speak to me (not audibly...louder than that).

We need to always have a 'Here am I' attitude and always be ready to serve in the capacity that He leads us.  All Christians are not called to do the same thing in the same way, but we are all called.  May we say to the Lord daily- Here Am I, Lord!  Send me!

    Go as He leads today!

    For the Nation

Today we read Isaiah 4 & 5, Psalms 115 &116, and the book of Jude.

As we celebrate our freedom this week, let the words to Israel in Psalm 115, also be for us as Americans.

    Psalm 115
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
    Why should the nations say,
        “Where is their God?”
    Our God is in the heavens;
he does all that he pleases.
Their idols are silver and gold,
        the work of human hands.
    They have mouths, but do not speak;
        eyes, but do not see.
    They have ears, but do not hear;
        noses, but do not smell.
    They have hands, but do not feel;
        feet, but do not walk;
and they do not make a sound in their throat.
    Those who make them become like them;
so do all who trust in them.
    Israel,[a] trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.
10 house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.

    God, please bless America.

    A Greater Freedom

Today we read Isaiah 1-3 and Titus 3.

This week we will celebrate the freedoms of this country that has allowed us to be the land of the free and the brave.  Celebrate we should!

We have a much greater freedom to celebrate as well and we should not forget what we have in Christ that we can enjoy.  Titus 3.4-7- But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Enjoy what you have in Christ this week as well.
